Empires is a completely new type of game - A role-playing
adventure running on the Internet which combines the graphical
capabilities of well-known commercial software like Ultima with
the unique traits of text-based multi-player Internet
games.Since the early eighties MUDs have been an extremely popular
pastime on the Internet. A MUD is a text-only game which brings
together hundreds of players into a single community, where they
fight together or against each other, singly or in teams, build up
a character with a history and a personality, and communicate with
online friends from around the globe.Empires builds on the tradition of MUDs by adding to this rich
social environment detailed graphics and an easy to use interface.
Players are now freed from the difficulties and limitations of
text based interaction. Empires brings the game to you instead
within the familiar context of a Windows or Macintosh
application.The only prerequisite to run the Empires software is that you have
a SLIP or PPP connection to the Internet. If you can run Netscape
or any other graphical Web browser now, then you are ready to play
Empires.Empires is currently in alpha state. This means that the software
is only available to the developers of Empires. We hope to release
the Windows client software for player beta testing soon.
